Colours: A Tribute
Dr. Asha Mohammed
The year begins with konna flowers,
Mangoes, jackfruit, bananas ripe,
All I see are dots and lines,
On the damaged screen of my eye.
Somwhere inside roses are red
The ponds are full of ambal flowers
Kingfishers blue dive to catch
The silverfish gliding in streams.
Craning his neck the rooster crows,
Announcing the birth of a rosy dawns;
Cobwebs catch the dew to spread
Lacey patterns on the grassy verge.
My mind is bangle seller’s box
Red and green and yellow rows
Mind is a kaleidoscope of hues
Turning forming patterns new.
O colours ! You’re distant friends
Out of sight, always in mind
On your butterfly- wings I fly
Trying to touch the distant sky.
